What Are The Responsibilities?
- Architect and implement end-to-end features across the entire stack, from database design to React components
- Own critical infrastructure decisions that will scale as our user base grows
- Lead by example, mentoring other engineers and establishing best practices
- Drive technical strategy and make architectural decisions that impact the entire platform
- Build robust, scalable APIs and microservices
- Optimize system performance, reducing latency by orders of magnitude
- Collaborate directly with executives on product vision and technical roadmap
Who You Are
- Expert-level proficiency in multiple programming languages (JavaScript, Python, Go, Rust)
- Deep understanding of system design, distributed systems, and cloud architecture
- Mastery of modern frontend frameworks (React, Vue, Next.js) and state management
- Expert in database design and optimization (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis)
- Proficient in containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm)
- Deep knowledge of AWS services and infrastructure as code
- Experience building real-time systems with WebSockets, gRPC, and message queues
- Strong understanding of security best practices and zero-trust architecture
- Sets the benchmark for shipping production code fast while maintaining quality
- Writes self-documenting, maintainable code that rarely requires debugging
- Can context-switch between multiple complex projects seamlessly
- Identifies and solves problems before they become issues
- Automates repetitive tasks and creates tools that multiply team productivity
- Makes pragmatic technology choices based on business needs, not trends
- Can debug any issue across the entire stack within hours
- Takes ownership of entire product areas and drives them to completion
Required and Preferred Education and Experience
- BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent real-world experience
- 8+ years shipping production software at scale (or equivalent impact)
- Track record of building systems handling enterprise scale
- Open source contributions or technical blog demonstrating expertise
- Experience delivering product at hypergrowth startups
- History of founding startups or leading successful projects
- Expert in scripting languages such as Python, Javascript and Bash
- Proficient in automated provisioning tools such as Terraform, Ansible and Cloudformation
- Proficient in the use of AI augmented development tools and workflows
- Expert in cloud computing platforms such as AWS, GCP and Azure
- Proficient in data pipeline platforms such as Nifi , Pentaho and Apache Arrow
- Proficient in containerization technologies such as Docker Swarm, Kubernetes and AWS ECS
- Proficient in message passing technologies such as RabbitMQ, Google Pub/Sub and Amazon SQS
- Proficient in SQL databases such as postgres, MySQL and Amazon RDS
- Proficient in data caching technologies such as Memcached and Redis
- Proficient in web application development frameworks such as nodejs , react and flask
- Experienced in 3rd party API and service integration
- Experienced in automated testing
- Experienced in REST API development and debugging
- Experienced in GraphQL API development and debugging
- Experienced in data serialization formats such as protobuf, avro and parquet
- Experienced in system design and architecture
- Experienced in secure programming concepts
- Experienced in NoSQL data stores such as Elasticsearch, Athena and MongoDB
Where will you work?
Successful candidates may review our job contract and employee handbook for definitive details, but the short story is that we support work-life balance. Employees work with their team and manager to establish:
- Hybrid office schedule: employees balance working remotely and working at our office in Belfast City Centre.
- Flexible schedule: employees generally work normal business hours. We routinely meet in the afternoon with US-based colleagues, but we rarely schedule meetings earlier than 8 am or past 6 pm local time.
What equipment will you use?
The position requires use of Macbooks and MacOS. We ensure you can work well from home by providing Macbook Pros, monitors, peripherals, and noise-canceling headphones.
Where will you go?
You will be required to travel to the United States for meetings and quarterly planning. You must be able to travel and be authorized to work in the United Kingdom.
